Mikal El-Amin is a Publisher/Award Winning Author. He began writing roughly five years ago in 2005/2006, but began to intensely start writing professionally in 2007. He completed his first manuscript in 2008 and set out on the difficult task of getting published shortly afterwards. After submitting his manuscript to several publishers and being either turned down or not replied to at all, he revaluated his situation and came up with a new strategy.
He has always envisioned his self becoming an entrepreneur and ultimately a successful businessman, so he started to reapply his ambitions of being an author with this type of mentality. So he came up with the idea to self publish his book, which led to an even bigger goal of creating and establishing his own company. With this newfound determination he did just that.
El-Amin cut out the middleman and made his self, his own resources, and his mind, the source in which he would tap into in order to achieve success. He planned out what he wanted his company's mission to be, created a business plan, structured things, and a few months later released his remarkable AWARD WINNING debut novel 187 Iz An Art, which was coauthored along with Richard L. Brown.
El-Amin was born and raised in Durham, North Carolina, and has experienced life from various aspects. He grew up in the inner city streets of Durham where hopelessness and despair were extremely prevalent, so as a youth he had to look for ill-conceived options as a way to better his predicament. After several turbulent years he decided to completely change his environment.
He wound up moving to Brooklyn, New York where he remade his self into an entrepreneur. He enrolled in college as a business major, and a few years later began writing. While living in New York he became ill with a chronic undiagnosed illness, and has been fighting through his illness for years now.
El-Amin has persevered and hasn't let either of the aforementioned situations hinder his progress, cripple his determination. or deter him from achieving his dreams. El-Amin developed a passion for giving back to his community and plans on having a tremendous impact on a global level. He states that he has found two initial organizations that he plans to donate a percentage of all his book sales.
He is interested in these foundations because one helps to improve the environment/options, for inner city kids of all ethnicities; while the other one conducts research and helps to find treatments for undiagnosed illnesses.
In 2009 El-Amin triumphantly started his own publishing company, and now resides in California where he is fully dedicated to becoming a prolific writer. El-Amin thinks of his self as a new breed of author who will write across the genres of urban-fiction (genre fiction), fiction (mainstream fiction), and romance as well. Given his life experiences, versatility, love of diversity & culture, intellect, & education; he is definitely a author easily capable of achieving this.
So far he has accomplished winning the following awards for his debut novel: 2009 LOS ANGELES BOOK FESTIVAL AWARD WINNER, 2010 SAN FRANCISCO BOOK FESTIVAL AWARD WINNER, 2010 NEW YORK BOOK FESTIVAL AWARD WINNER. His ultimate goal is to get into screen writing which he claims would be very gratifying and challenging for him.
